All witnesses on the Need A Witness UK platform must follow this Code of Conduct.
It ensures professionalism, reliability, and a positive experience for couples.
1. Professional Behaviour
- Be respectful, polite, and calm at all times
- Dress appropriately for a wedding ceremony
- Follow venue rules and registrar instructions
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion
2. Punctuality
- Arrive at least 10–15 minutes before the ceremony
- Plan travel to avoid delays
- Notify us immediately if you are running late
3. Communication
- Respond promptly to messages about bookings
- Be reachable on the day of the ceremony
- Inform us immediately of any issues or emergencies
4. Reliability
- Only accept jobs you can confidently attend
- No‑shows without notice may result in removal from the platform
- Repeated lateness may also lead to suspension
5. Legal Requirements
- You must be over 16 (local authority rules may vary)
- You must understand the ceremony and declarations
- You must speak and understand English clearly
- You must be able to sign your name on the marriage schedule
6. Conduct at the Ceremony
- Follow registrar instructions
- Do not disrupt the ceremony
- No alcohol or intoxication before or during the job
- Be respectful to all guests and staff
7. Platform Rules
- Do not contact couples directly outside the platform
- Do not negotiate prices privately
- Do not share personal data unnecessarily
8. Removal From Platform
We may suspend or remove witnesses for:
- unprofessional behaviour
- no‑shows or repeated lateness
- misuse of the platform
- providing false information
