Witness Agreement

This Witness Agreement (“Agreement”) outlines the terms under which individuals (“Witnesses”) provide witness services through the Need A Witness UK platform (“the Platform”). By registering as a witness, you agree to the terms below.

1. Independent Contractor Status

All witnesses are self‑employed independent contractors. You are not an employee, worker, partner, or agent of Need A Witness UK. This means:

• You choose which jobs to accept
• You control your own schedule and availability
• You are responsible for your own tax and National Insurance
• You provide the witness service; we provide the platform

2. Responsibilities of the Witness

You agree to:

• Arrive on time for all accepted bookings
• Dress appropriately for a wedding ceremony
• Act professionally, respectfully, and discreetly
• Follow all instructions from registrars and venue staff
• Only sign documents you are legally permitted to sign
• Notify us immediately if you cannot attend a booking

3. Legal Requirements

You confirm that you:

• Are over 16 (local authority rules may vary)
• Understand the ceremony and declarations being made
• Speak and understand English clearly
• Are able to sign your name on the marriage schedule

4. Accepting & Declining Jobs

You may accept or decline any job offered to you. Once accepted, you are expected to attend. Failure to attend without notice may result in removal from the platform.

5. Payments

Payments are made per completed job. You will receive:

• The witness fee for the job
• Minus any applicable platform fee

Payments are sent to the bank details you provide. You are responsible for declaring this income to HMRC.

6. Cancellations & No‑Shows

If you cannot attend a job you have accepted, you must notify us immediately. Repeated cancellations or no‑shows may result in suspension or removal.

7. Conduct & Behaviour

You agree to:

• Behave respectfully toward couples, guests, and staff
• Avoid alcohol or intoxication before or during a job
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism

8. Data Protection

We store your information securely and only use it for platform operations. Your first name may be shared with couples for booking purposes.

9. Liability

Need A Witness UK is not liable for your actions, behaviour, or punctuality. You are responsible for providing the witness service professionally and legally.

10. Removal From Platform

We may suspend or remove witnesses for:

• Unprofessional behaviour
• No‑shows or repeated lateness
• Misuse of the platform
• Providing false information

11. Acceptance

By registering as a witness, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to this Agreement, the Witness Code of Conduct, and all platform policies.
